ACTIVITIES/PROJECTS YEAR TO DATE from the Zone Governor (May 8, 2010)
Seven clubs in Zone 6, six adult and one Ruriteen club. All above charter strength. 226 total members. Beloit - 20 members, Damascus, 39 members, Goshen Center - 20 members, Knox - 30 members, Lexington - 21 members, West Branch Ladies - 19 members, West Branch Ruriteen Club - 77 members.
Damascus, Beloit, Goshen Center, Knox, West Branch Area Ladies and West Branch Ruriteen clubs all worked together to help sponsor and run a benefit dinner for a local family. The young mother was killed and seven year old son was paralyzed from a head on crash last November. $13,325.27 was raised for the family and their medical expenses.
BELOIT RURITAN CLUB: Assisted other Zone 6 clubs with benefit dinner for local family. Roadside clean up in April. Sponsor Little League baseball team. Provide and maintain community park with Little League field. Co-sponsor two blood drives with Damascus and Goshen Center clubs. Plan "Breakfast in the Park" seven times between May and September.
DAMASCUS: Lead Zone 6 clubs with benefit dinner for local family. Donations to Habitat for Humanity, Way Station, People to People, Columbiana Soil and Water Conservation, Special Olympics, National Capital Improvement Fund. Sponsor Little League team. Build handicap ramp for local faimly. Co-sponsored two blood drives with Beloit and Goshen Center clubs.
GOSHEN CENTER RURITAN CLUB Assisted other clubs in Zone 6 with benefit dinner for local family. Donations to local Volunteer Fire Department, local family whose father passed away, gift certificates to area family in need. Built two wheelchair ramps (one at each grandparents homes) for seven year old boy paralyzed in auto accident. Co-sponsored two blood drives with Damascus and Beloit clubs. Held annual "Rose Day" fundraiser. Sponsor Little League team. Provide and maintain park with Little League and soccer fields. Plan three weekends of tractor pulls for fundraisers.
KNOX RURITAN CLUB Assisted other clubs in Zone 6 with benefit dinner for local family. Donation to Columbiana Mental Health. Various donations made. Provide and maintain sports complex with multiple Little League fields and 4 soccer fields. Sponsor Little League team and soccer team. Offer public contract use of a dunk tank, peddle tractor pull, sell community birthday calendars. Club sponsored first RuriTeen Club in Ohio and first ladies Ruritan Club, West Branch Area Ladies Club. We serve the Twp. community monthly, with food rations from our pantry. LEXINGTON RURITAN CLUB Lead area recycling drive. Held "Community Day" Support local Boy Scout leaders. Donations to Alliance Area Development Foundation, Order of the Arrow Advisor, Elementary School Essay Awards. Helped with Habitat for Humanity project. Hospice work. Planning pancake breakfast.
